Notes

Brooke spent considerably more than $100 on this program but feels the cost can be kept down by giving less expensive gifts to the artists and serving inexpensive food. Pre-sizing the covers ahead of giving them to the artists was very helpful and ensured the drawings would be within the correct size for each book. She did this program over the summer so kids had time to work on the artwork and then hosted the reception in the fall. She then marked the spines of each restored book with pink label. For MHLS libraries, you can order any of the following titles which were *facelifted* through the MHLS catalog: >>The Cricket on the Hearth : a Fairy Tale of Home [by] Charles Dickens, illustrated by Francis D. Bedford. >>The Man who Sang the Sillies by John Ciardi ; drawings by Edward Gorey. >>The Walrus and the Carpenter and other Poems by Lewis Carroll. Pictures by Gerald Rose. >>The Plain Princess by Phyllis McGinley ; with pictures by Helen Stone >>Chocolate Fever by Robert K. Smith ; illustrated by Gioia Fiammenghi.
