Notes

Select author to contact and set up when they are available to take the call. Valle said they usually paid the author $100 for one-half hour call.

You can let kids help decide which author they would like to talk to or pick one yourself that you feel will be popular.

Gather kids ahead of time to talk about some of the books by the author. Have kids create a list of questions they want to ask; edit list so each kid gets to ask one question and they know which one it is.

Find the author's website on computer before call and display their picture, if it's available.

Have refreshments for after the call when the kids will want to discuss how it all went.
