Title

Library Street Teams

Description

Looking for a new strategy in promoting your library programs AND using teen volunteers? Why not create your own library "Street Team?" Street Teams (what's a Street Team? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Street_team) are used by bands and festivals to help promote their shows by placing fliers, posters, and more throughout communities. Grass roots organizations are now embracing them. Look for examples by googling "Street Teams", or check out your favorite small town band and festival's websites.

Notes

Your Library Street Team could distribute program fliers and posters to community businesses, organizations and schools. Their word of mouth publicity would get their friends, and then, their friends' friends, into your library as well. Plus, you'd get the benefit of their opinions quickly as they picked up the program fliers! Of course, you wouldn't have to limit your Street Team to teens! This would also be a great way to utilize other adult volunteers to infiltrate their particular community organizations and business interests to spread the library word. Try it out by placing an "ad" on your library blog or web page!
